Thiad makes a great point. If an item isn't in stock at the other place, odds are they wouldn't match it anyway. However, I still see it as conflicting since Scuba.com does have a store and Sport Chalet seems to not recognize that. This manager might say it's corporate policy but it doesn't speak for ALL stores. I could go to another store where the manager is a diver and familiar with scuba.com and end up getting a price matched. Maybe, maybe not. If ya want something immediately you often will pay a little more for it. Sounds like everything worked out well for the OP. Enjoy your trip and your new fins!!

What am I missing? Isn't Sports Chalet also an online scuba retailer?

TUSA Unisex X-Pert Zoom Open Heel Fins - Sport Chalet

Yes they are.

Mostly though they are a store front but that's beside the point. I think the manager was just irritated with the OP and decided to stick to her guns right or wrong. That said, I believe the OP stated that the items weren't in stock at the store he was asking for the price match (scuba.com).

The real problem here is that the store isn't called scubachalet, it's called sportschalet and therefore I don't think they really care too much about scuba. My guess is scuba is the bastard step child of the store. That has been my feeling anyway when I have gone in for something scuba related.

I honestly didn't know SCUBA.com had a physical store front. I was recently in HB and wanted to stop by and pick up something, but they didn't seem very amenable to the idea.

But, if you think about it, Leisure Pro also has a store in NYC. For those back east, I would think the same problem comes up from time to time. Much of it probably comes down to the idea of an ad in the newspaper (or circular), versus an ad on the internet.

Just as an anecdote, the Barnes & Noble storefront locations won't match their own web site prices. Photoshop Elements was something like $20 more in the store than what it was on their own web site. Go figure?

My experience with Sport Chalet is pretty much the same as my experience with Scuba.com. Sometime they have great deals and can deliver, sometimes they don't. In any event, I have found that my local dive shop does a pretty damn good job at getting the stuff I need and a great price.

@ On To Heels..Yes I got the Fins elsewhere and actually they are for my GF as a surprise for our trip. She has older fins and I wanted to get her something new for the trip, and thank you :)

@ scubadobadoo I can care less if she was irratated because I politely requested she explain to me why they would not honor scuba.com's price instead of just taking "No" without some type of explination, but Sports Chalet would accept from places like Liburdi's or Dive N Surf which I clearly stated the names of those two shops to her. An as for her sticking to her guns, yes she did and I don't have any ill will for her, just sad that Sports Chalet chooses who they wish to price match and sinlge out one company. I was compleatly polite and respectful and did not raise my voice. I find that yelling proves no point and the message one is trying to convey becomes diminished.

I am for saving money during these times and yes $50 plus tax is a lot of money to me. That money can be used for another dive or a nice dinner out. What I learned is next time I will call and ask what companies they will price match with. It never occured to me I could have printed out the leisurepro.com add and gave that a try or scubatoys.com.

Cheers

Sorry, didn't mean to make it sound like that at all. I agree that her reasoning is kinda silly and my point was that she was irritated for no real good reason. I have noticed that people who are irritated sometimes make up rules on the spot. I would have price matched for ya if I were her.

2 gas stations sit on opposite corners. The price difference between them is 5 cents a gallon. Who many of you drive into the higher priced station and ask them to match price?

Excellent point!!

As for online retailer vs store, perhaps they consider where the bulk of that company's sales come from. For scuba.com, it's online sales. For sport chalet, it's in store. Therefore, sport chalet will more than likely price match similar businesses. Just like online retailers will often attempt to price match other online retailers.
