Most people call diving a sport. Why?

Every "sport" I could think of today, kept score or had an elimination type competition till there was a "winner". Diving doesn't qualify.

I would say that diving is a hobby instead. It's done for relaxation and personal enjoyment, and like most hobbies, it costs quite a bit to continue.

Does it have something to do with people's desire to subconciously make their activity sound more "aggresive"??

No real reason for this question, but maybe there are some opinions??

Same with Golf.

Same with Fishing.

And NASCAR.

Scuba is a hobby. A Pastime. Its not a sport.

(PS: we've been pretty far down this road before - just thought I'd say that early in the thread... I really don't need a reason to bash soccer... )

maybe not in the People's Republic of California, but where i come from,
kicking a ball around until someone gets hurt is DEFINETELY a sport

so is getting into accidents and shouting at the other driver, passersby,
and the police when (if) they show up

And miss a chance to bash Soccer??? Get real my friend.

You know Soccer. I'm sure you've stopped on it on the TV for a moment (does ants pushing an aspirin around on a pool table sound familiar) but you probably kept on clicking when, after maybe 44 minutes into the HALF nobody had scored yet.

Count the soccer leagues that have folded in the US (hint: a number greater than NoCal Giants World Series championships.) When I was in HS in the 70's (gad...) Pele and the boys were going to take over the US with this "sport."

3 dead leagues among both genders later, I'm still impatiently waiting. We dont care about soccer. Never have. Never will.

In the PRC or in Necksonville, soccer is a non issue.
