Speaking for Tigger, no. They are a bit different. Her supplier is very close to where I live. Well worth a day trip to have one of their specialists inspect the boot and make a suggestion as to closest material.

I would start with that. If you don't like the boot you made then you can get a harder material. I think the Oomoo 30 will do the job. Especially with mold release the different pours will not stick together.

If you can go over to Smooth-on by all means do so. If they have a better way to do it I would love to know. I am no expert, just someone who is enjoying playing with the easy to use materials.

No intention of changing your procedure in the least. I saw the amazing detail in the sample you sent and that is REALLY tough stuff. The mold shouldn't tear on release. I'm sold on Oomoo 30 for the mold.

The only issue is with the boot that you never got to see. I'll just have an expert ID it for me and then suggest the closest match of their material.

BTW, I've recently had questions about SPEC boots for both MK5's and MK10's. Any of you reg guys know if they ever existed?

Once I get some time on this and figure the casting thing out, it should be nothing to make two more molds. Oh, and Dow Corning cautioned me about looking for swelling from the silicone grease/oil dissolving in the cap.

That might be a reason to cast the boot in urethane instead of silicone. I have used the Reoflex also. Good question for the Smooth-On guys. BTW they are really helpful and friendly.

I have this one from an MK 10. ...//...

I don't know enough about MK-10's to tell from the photo. Is that part a boot that covers the holes to keep grease in or is it the piece just above the swiveling LP end?

If that is a boot, I'd love to borrow it...

It fits into a groove in the body of the regulator to cover the holes after the stage is packed.




Here is one with the boot in place.

They can be tough to find. Many of thr MK10's for sale on ebay no longer have the boot.
