I wanted to buy a SP MK25/s600 from LP but they rant out of stock before I could place my order. I then opted for a SP MK25/s555 and placed my order. This time it was during the processing that they found out they had no more s555's. The sales guy proposed a G250 (HP) instead (or maybe a x650). I am still quite new to diving and this is the first gear I am buying. I really wanted to use my own stuff for next weekend's dive.
Can you guys help me see the difference between the s555 and the G250 they are offering (or would you recommend the x650). I believe they don't yet stock the new G250v.
All opinions are welcome.
Thanks

I'd recommend the G250. Of the 4 regs you are loo0king at, it is the best. The extra $$ for the smaller sized S600 & S555 really is not worth it. The X650 is an odd ball from Scubapro and I'd be afraid it may not have the lifetime of support you can expect with the S and G series. The larger size of the 250 will be unnoticable in the water.

Buy the Atomic B2 Instead.

The G250 has the same moving parts as the s600 and s555, they also use the same service parts. The will breathe all nearly identical to each other. Some would argue the G250 is a better breather than the s600 and s555 because of the larger diaphragm, thus more mechanical advantage. All really good second stages.

But i would prefer to get the B2 also.

Thanks for the sound advice guys. I think I'll go for the G250 then since there is no atomic reseller/service center in the area I currently live in.
do you think it is worth looking for the G250V instead of the G250HP? It definitely looks nicer on the picture.

I dive the predecesslor to the G250, the metal Balanced Adjustable. My wife dives the S600 which is the same design as the G250HP. Her rig is a bit smoother breathing than mine. Although relatively complex when compared to the G250V, the G250HP is a well established proven performer. The one clear advantage of the V is the metal barrel which will provide a little relief from dry mouth if that is a problem. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

This must be a case of her regulator technician being better than yours. ;-)

Seriously, what would you attribute the smoother operation to? Are the innards (I like that word) i.e. the spring, poppet & lever different or is there something about the barrel design?

thanks,

The Atomics Are overated,Stick with Scubapro.

I would also look at the MK17/S600 this is a sealed unit, good cold water reg.

Yeah, water is quite warm this part of the world, especially this time of year (30 deg Celsius on the surface). I might be doing some dives by next year in canada though, so a reg that doesn't freeze up too quickly (I won't dive in ice cold water..couldn't survive the idea)
cheers
