Seemed obvious to me. This is not use or abuse.
The fins I use are from .... I'm going to say 1970 and looking at the wear on them I'll be diving with them until I die. There is no way the damage you had was due to anything other than a bad batch of rubber.
Nice to know that they still put their money where their mouth is.
