Anyone else ever see this kind of cracking on the vanes on the underside of their SP Jets? They appear to be in line with the mold seam... indicating a possible manufacturing defect?

Just noticed these recently on mine, which are about 7yrs old. Can't seem to track down any info on SP website, but wondering if this would be covered under any sort of warranty.

Seen that usually with some instructors fins. Happens from time time mostly from getting bent up in pool in shallow end. Scubapro May warranty them, may not. I usually just threw them away and replaced them.

I've broken MANY of those fins exactly like that - on the side rails most commonly. They wear out if you dive a lot and abuse on the bottom does not help. They are tough fins, but rubber products that get that kind of abuse will fail with time.

They were GREAT fins 35 years ago... now.. I much prefer freedive fins for 99% of my diving.

I dove XL sized Jet fins from 1985 until 2010 before switching to OMS slipstreams and then back to yellow Jet Fins. There still in great shape despite 25 active years of diving, thousands of dives, thousands of hours under the water.

Yours should not have cracked at all, especially after just 7 years.

Now… the qualifier here is if you've left them in places where they were exposed to ozone, or other chemical contaminants that may have degraded the rubber, but in those cases, there is either generalized weather checking of the rubber or a very specific area where the chemical contamination has softened or hardened the rubber.

In a closet, in a suitcase, or in the water.

My dealer is going to call SP on Monday and see what can be done.

Fingers crossed.

FYI - Dealer says SP will warranty fins.
