KrisB:
Wailea Point (south end of Wailea Beach) has some great diving... I've gone diving there and spent 100+ minutes in water shallower than 25'. You have to go a ways out to find water deeper.

The south end of Ulua is great, too... it wraps around to the north end of Wailea Beach, but somehow about half of the way from Ulua to Wailea, the beautiful living coral was replaced with algae covered rock and detritus.
The alternate access to Wailea Point is from Polo Beach from the south side of the point. Headed south on the main drag (Wailea Alanui Drive)hang a right at the stop sign just past the Fairmont Kea Lani (a big white hotel), then right again one driveway before the bottom of the hill. Generally lots of parking. A few BBQs, public restroom, and a nice beach.

It has some nice shallow areas for snorklers, but not as obvious as at Ulua. If someone in your party doesn't want to go in the water, they can stroll north on a well maintained beachside sidewalk all the way up north past Ulua.

Access is easy, but is a 1 or 2 minute walk rather than the very close to the beach dropoff like at Ulua.

My usual procedure is to first head to Ulua, and then if there aren't any parking spots, to head on further south to Polo Beach, White Rock, or Makena.
