You could also go for a Garmin Descent G1 - though you should check whether the screen is readable enough for you.
The Descent Mk1/2 is also a solid watch option, but you pay more for AI and since it has more features they're harder to find at the lower price point you're looking for.
The G1 was less popular, but if it matches your needs, there are some on ebay right now.
 
Shearwater Tern if you need a watch form, Peregrine if you decide you don't. Available new for $650 and $550 respectively
 
Bought my significant other her first dive computer for christmas. A Garmin G1. I hope she likes it :) Was thinking the Peregrine but it's just too expensive and considering she's also interested in Tech diving, I feel the G1 would make a decent back-up computer if she gets a Perdix down the line.
