If you make a public statement about the motivation of any particular person (including moderators) then expect a public response at that person's discretion. You might even expect some public defense as well.

There was no statement made about motivation, only a question asking who.

we ARE the rif-raff your mother warned you about.
Yea.... sure you are.

We operate under the same guidelines as you and are actually allowed to have our own opinions. Hey, we are even allowed to stir the pot a bit ourselves...

have at it. But when you are performing your moderator duties, personal feelings should not enter into it. You are representing scubaboard and when somebody specifically states "Personally......", then I feel that is wrong.

When you start to pay me for my services.....

Don't quit your day job

If, in the course of my tenure here, you do not think my actions are in keeping with me being a moderator, then please pm King Neptune or Lady Diver with your concerns. I am sure all the other moderators feel the same way.

Why? Let's do it here. The personal crap was started here. If you feel that as a moderator, you shouldn't be setting an example, then I feel that is wrong. Sure.... have fun... make inappropriate posts.... no problem. But when you do the same while performing "moderation", then that reflects badly upon the board.

By the way, why are you arguing with me about this? It wasn't your post that turned personal.

Oh well, since somebody brought me up again..even after I asked to be left out of it, I guess it's only fair :)

Jep actually brings up a good point. I would be curious what the mission statement of the mod squad is. Is it certain people or certain topics that just seem to enjoy immunity from moderation? I have been told this is a "family board" and that it needs to be moderated in order to keep it relatively clean for those pure souls (and kiddies) that may venture here. That's cool, hey, it's your board, do what you want.

But what's the deal people? We have all this slapsticky soft-core pornography with pudding and sexual innuendos going on for like 6000 posts and that doesn't require moderation, but heaven forbid I try to joke around with my recently promoted buddies and I get my head stomped in the dirt. The people that talk diving around here get moderated more than the people using this place as a Hustler chit-chat board...unbelievable.

Dude, quit wasting your time...your the Iraqi Republican Guard and the others are the US Military. The physc. warfare is killing people like you, me and WW. We can't win.

Its just a lost cause..lets move on to something more productive...

like the relationship you have with dolphins. :)

What's wrong Ziggys_Friend? Are you mad because I called you publicly on posting information that was so ludicrously wrong that it was dangerous? You really should have listened more closely in your class. I'll leave it at that since you "sure don't want to get in the middle of this", even tough you inserted yourself for some reason.WW

WW Actually, it was only after I posted that I realized the connection. I think I responded to your comment elsewhere, but I will happily say that you were quite right in that thread to call me on commenting on something I don't have the qualifications to comment on (Mixes). I didn't say this, but your comment convinced me to stay out of such threads in the future.

As for this one, no I don't want to get in the middle, but I also think you should realize how "loaded" your words were/are. Having said that, it's clear the lady can defend herself so I clearly don't belong in this thread anymore...

not to point out the obvious, but moderators don't get paid as far as I know...and the only gratification they get for this "highly prestigious" position is being able to have some control over what goes in and gets thrown out, so if that makes them happy, hey, more power to them. I have to agree though that there doesn't seem to be much consistency in what gets pulled except anything related however superficially to any of that three letter word (that starts with W) topic.
now how long until this thread gets too contriversial and needs to be pulled...hmmm....people seem to be getting quite riled up about the whole thing

I've stayed out of this thus far but can not see the following being mentioned.

When a member receives a PM about a thread that has been removed from the public forum, that does not necessarily mean it was that moderator who removed it. As it has been said, the thread is moved to an area where the moderators can discuss its content and suitability. Any moderator can then PM the member.

In this circumstance, WreckWriter specifically stated in the thread "Delete this if you want" so he knew that it was questionable whether to content of the thread would be suitable.

If anyone is ever unsure whether a thread is suitable or not, the best thing to do is PM a moderator and ask their opinion - it would save us having to go through this!

If you want to save PM's for a friend.....you can email me directly to scubaboard@abbywilson.co.uk. Or PM one of the moderators and delete it from your sent items!!! That way you arent wasting any of your space on it !

As it has been said before earlier in this thread and in pretty much every other thread of this nature : If a thread is removed and you have not yet received a PM, please PM a moderator directly.
