Knotical, I tried to find the answer by following your link, but the Greek alphabet wasn't there.

That was a pointer to the Cyrillic alphabet. Greek is usually easier to find. For example:

That would present some problems with voice communications under poor conditions, so it was rejected.

05-Alfa, 05-Bravo, 05-Charlie, etc or something of that nature has possibilities.
