Redondo Canyon, 9/4/03
After seeing miles upon miles of red tide on a drive down from Pt. Mugu on Wednesday, and a report from a diver coming out of the Canyon of 3-5 viz all the way down to 120', and a bumpy surface swim out, we weren't expecting much.
Dude must have been on crack. Below 30' or so, viz opened up to 30+, beautiful dive. Tons of nudibranchs, two baby horn sharks, massive sheep crabs eating remains of a ray, with sarcastic fringehead and shovelnose guitarfish hanging out for scraps, round rays, thornbacks..... all the usual critters.
86 feet, 41:00, 52 Suunto degrees, man that thermocline coming up felt like bathwater.
