avoska,
I have absolutely no problem swimming with a weight belt, although I have used one for so long that it is second nature to me now. You just have to be sure to not have so much weight that you are negatively buoyant at the surface. If you are wearing a shorty wet suit, or if you do not have super-low percent body fat, I'd suggest starting with 8 lb on your weight belt. I've gotten a little fatter in my "old age", and if I am not using a wet suit, 11 lb of weight now works best for me. I am still positively buoyant at the surface with this much weight.
Dave

Wow, 11 lbs?? Even wearing my 3/2 wetsuit, I'd go down like a rock!! In re to 'swimming with ...', I agree. Once you get used to it, not an issue at all ...

Now, if I could only find a way to get my wife to carry a couple of 'extra pounds' for those times when, after doing some deeper stuff, I find myself a bit 'light' for taking shots at 10-15ft ...

A few pictures from my last visit to Grand Cayman, including the first Octopus I have been able to get images on...

I just started snorkeling and I am amazed at what I was able to see just 6 ft below the water surface. I am currently stationed in Okinawa,Japan. The waters are clear throughout most of the year and I figured I should try to snorkel to see the ocean life. The camera I use was the Canon Powershot D10. Wow! that picture is really great! I want to take picture's like that. Can I take picture's like that by just snorkeling? or should I dive deeper? that was very beautiful!

I really miss diving every time I see picture's like this but I don't have enough time to do this even visit beach for a day. But I will put some time again to dive so I can see this kind under water again in personal and I will buy new cam so I can have my own picture with this beautiful scenery!

Yes, you can take pics like this by snorkeling. The water depth was about 6ft and depending on the areas there can be even more marine life. It takes planning and research to find a good snorkel spot but I'm sure there are spots where you live.

testudo and lewnessmonster, what kind of gear are you guys using? like wet mounts and strobes and what not...you both have some great shots.

impressive, very. how much post work do you have to do or do you just have the clearest water on earth to shoot in? but seriously, bravo.
