Fascinating thread !

Dave C , did you ever post your pictures from Curacao ? I kind of lost track while checking out
all the great pictures posted here.
I snorkeled in Curacao two weeks ago (for only 3 hours) at the Pierbaai Reef across from the
Dive Bus shop. It was an absolutely great location and the guys at the Dive Bus were very
helpful. I'd really like to see what other locations on the island are like.

I very much liked Curacao, above and below water, although I thought the place has really been overfished. The water was extremely clear right off the beach.

Here are some snorkeling pics from my latest week-long trip to Grand Cayman at the end of November. The weather wasn't perfect; it was very windy each day except one and I was not able to get in the water around Rum Point, which I think has the best shore snorkeling in Grand Cayman. There were even big waves for two days on Seven Mile Beach and in George Town, which are locations that are usually very calm.

Thanks for the GC pix Dave! Sorry the conditions didn't cooperate. It has been extremely windy the last 2 months. Headed down for a quick trip this week and hope the winds and seas are a bit tamer. Off to Roatan in February so I hope to have some new material.

Well, like Dave C.'s experience, the water conditions were not ideal for snorkeling at Rum Point on Grand Cayman this week. I did manage to get one trip to the barrier reef in though. As luck would have it I got to observe my first pair of Flying Gurnards in Cayman waters after having only seen them in the Tobago Cays.

How do you snorkel with a weight belt? I am thinking this is what I need to do as I am a floater. Tips? How do you do this? Cheers

What is your camera?
How do you snorkel with a weight belt? I am thinking this is what I need to do as I am a floater. Tips? How do you do this? Cheers

I now use a Canon D10. I am a floater as well. Will sometimes use a weight belt, but did not use one when taking the above set; though wish I did since the Gurnards were around 15 ft down and my buoyancy gave me little time to compose a shot.
