I was just hoping to get a list of the skills that are MOST in demand in the diving industry. Basically, if you were to hire a new instructor, what skills would you find the most useful in a candidate?

Good mechanical skills
ability to help people relax
sales
enough gumption not to be bullied on class standards
good with e mail. spreadsheats, social networking sights
not afraid to clean

Here are a few that come to mind:

Willingness to act as part of a team;
Willingness to take responsibility;
Good leadership skills;
Doer not a watcher;
Good communication skills;
Great attitude: light-hearted, friendly, easy-going, approachable;
Attention to detail;
Professional instructor that puts safety of the clients first;
Willingness to go that little bit extra to insure the clients are enjoying themselves;
Adherence to instructions, policy and procedures;
Honest, loyal and ethical;
Experienced in seamanship and vessel safety;
Knowledgeable with all types of diving equipment;
Mechanical ability including diving equipment repair and maintenance.

Ability to fix boat engines.
