I am all over the chart on these shorts. So what do you get if you have:

42 chest
31 waist
35 hips
155-170 lbs
+6' 1"

Anybody ever get these things...how did they fit? I am too shy for a speedo and the world doesn't need ANOTHER guy in a speedo, anyway!:11:

Yep. The Uzzi shorts are nice. I have three pairs of them, but even THOSE bunch up in the wetsuit. The Speedos and/or Lycra Bike Shorts are truly the best thing, unless you go in the buff under your suit.

I also like the retro 'Mike Nelson' style, for the same reasons. I got 2 pair of these when Performance Diver still existed, and haven't been able to get something quite like them since. I saw one from Scubapro that were blue and white harlequin instead of basic black, NOS from the early 1980's apparently that someone found cleaning out their dive store closet, but they were men's Small, and would never work for me.

Can anyone say whether these are similar or not from experience? I'm thinking of ordering some to try out, but would appreciate a review from someone who has tried these.

What works for me are Uzzi Shorts, like the link Stu S posted http://www.diversdirect.com/item/Uzzi Mens Solid Color Shorts_ID6078
but the ones I use don't have a liner -- just a single layer of cloth. It seems like the liners in bathing suits is what causes bunching under a wetsuit.

The snaps have rusted shut, my wife has had to resew a bunch of rotted out seams, but I'll keep using the same bathing suit until it dies. I've been on the lookout for a replacement bathing suit, but all of the shorter ones I've seen have liners. One can always do a bit of snipping and get a single layer suit, though.

Jon,

Not to flame you bro, but what does your chest size have to do with a short? Looking at the sizing chart the s-m should work for you. Now if you are looking for a wetsuit that is another issue.

BTW, Speedos are best worn once you develop a big beer gut and lots of back hair. Women love it. :rofl3:

Great point...I was just reading off the chart not thinking about it...Good thing it didn't list hat and shoe sizes, huh? Flame accepted...;)

LOL - only on Scubaboard!

Funny thing is that I've been worried about replacing my dive shorts for some time. I have a pair of little black shorts that is sort of like a speedo but with square legs. Perfect for under a wetsuit and isn't too embarrassing between that point when you pull off the camo shorts and pull on the wetsuit.

I think the brand is SunCountry, but the tag has fallen off a long time ago. They have been dunked over a thousand times and are getting a wee bit see-thru. Anyway, I've looked around for a replacement but have never found anything suitable. But thanks to this thread, I think that maybe I have a substitute...

For me, the smaller the better as to reduce the "bunch-up" potential, but I need the square legs.

Anyway - glad for the thread!

I don't know why they don't make "Navy Cut" swimsuits anymore. The things I see that are marketed as swim trunks, look like they would be more at home in the 1800's. Hrmph...
(This could be dangerous...) "Navy Cut"?

Many types of running shorts are made with very light fabric. You won't notice it bunch up under a wet suit, drys fast too.

Another category to look at is team sports "compression" shorts. These are available in briefs (like jockey shorts) and longer leg models. The fabric is thicker and you could always throw a pair of unlined trunks on over them. They will be form fitting and the white colored ones may go a little bit transparent when wet.
