I didn't know there were special pouches for sidemount! I've just been using my diverite pocket for spare mask and other "stuff". I guess I could find another location for it, but so far it's on my thigh just inside of the right tank. Just a few inches over from where I wore it when backmounted.

I think the drysuit I ordered from bare is supposed to have a pouch. Not sure if it will be accessible in sidemount or not, I guess time will tell.

RH,
When I was diving today and using all my Velcro pockets for weights and gizmos, I thought of your post. I wondered what your concerns were about Velcro and what you think works better. Please understand that I don't intend to flame you, I am just looking for "a better way to build a mouse trap."
Peace,
ShootnStr8
