its the manufacturing process that is the issue, because it uses high temperatures and industrial acids. the waste treatment/disposal and air emissions are the key concerns. proper disposal and abatement is expensive, so it becomes can you be certain the manufacturer won't cut corners due to costs and also at a certain point, it becomes extremely difficult to meet water and air standards that are getting tightened that it becomes impractical to continue.
Thanks for the info. TIL

Faber's new matt black paint finish looks pretty good. Not HDG though.
Dang it. I need more tanks like I need more watches. Sigh, time to check them out at my local LDS. When did these drop/start showing up at your shop?

They were at DEMA last year as a limited run but now they are a permanent option.

DGX is already stocking HP100 in Matte Black; showing the gray cylinders out of stock.

DGX description:

This is a special limited edition run of the Faber HP100 in a "Matte Black" durable coating over hot-zinc spray galvanizing. Matte Black is a non-reflective finish that absorbs light. Note this durable non-reflective finish is different than the glossy polyurethane over epoxy paint seen on other Faber cylinders.

I saw a number of these this weekend at Force-E … for $600 each!

They looked cool but I doubt they’ll stay that way in use.

I was looking at PPG Omni 2K single-stage or Benjamin Moore’s Corotech Command 1K acrylic urethane paints if I wanted to have colorful tanks… but Rust-Oleum’s cheaper(but limited in colors, the Ben Moore stuff can be had in any of their colors)
