Anyone tried Playa Corona?

I have done one dive on Playa Corona. We got in at the restaurant at the South end. It was shallow and not lots of life but along the rocky beach are caves to look into (for me) and for cave divers to go into. I'd do it again.

Looking for a good spot for skills practice before we go on our first drift dive. We are staying just north of Chankanaab, is Playa Corona a good spot or another spot in that area we could go to work on bc and trim?

Playa Corona may not be the best place for this. The bottom slopes very gradually from shore; you'd have to go pretty far out even to get to where it's 10-12' deep. I don't believe you can get tanks and weights there, either.

You can get 25 or 30 feet at Playa Corona fairly easily. Certainly no tanks or weights. Blue Angel would be best for the try out dive.

We are diving with Blue Angel so may be best there then, were just hoping to find something close to our condo the practice on our own time. Thanks!

Yep. Dove there a few times. His tanks are spendy but if you go to the marina the nice man in the cage full of tanks and compressors will rent you one for $3. If you swim out a ways you can get to coral the boats rarely stop at. According to the owner (nice guy and will give good directions) there is a cenote opening just to the north of the place. We never did find it but we'd spent most of our air farther off shore.
