And lastly, from the south end of the state check out Narragansett Pier Dive Shop, http://pierdive.com/. Charlie has also been serving the divers in RI for Decades. It's a small shop, but it is well stocked. They can also point you towards some nice diving around the south shore.
Also few times I dove in RI, Pier Dive Shop always managed to find a buddy for me. And they don't care if you change out of your clothes in the shop. Definitely recommend.

I go to OSS usually. I like them a lot. I go over to Newport if I'm in a pinch, they have very nice rental gear. There is also a new shop in Warwick, Epicenter Scuba. I haven't been in yet but I sort of know the owner and his wife.

cool cool cool. I love this multiple opinion thing. thanks everyone

Hope we didn't confuse you too much with all the opinions:D!

We're lucky to have a bunch of good shops in RI. Lousy shops would not last very long around here as one can easily drive another 15 minutes and walk into another one. We don't have any "chain stores", just a bunch of independent entrepreneurs, in most cases sole proprietors, trying to make a living doing what they like.

Enjoy RI Mr Harry!
