Check out B&M Distributing, Rt 44 east, 279 Taunton Ave., East Providence. 401-434-5058

Dealt with Bruce Murray (the owner) for years when I lived in MA. Still do from FL. He has a very well stocked store. Can't bet his prices.

not in RI but a excellent shop about a stones throw into mass is odyssey scuba on rt 44 in rehobth

I'm still and always will be partial to OSS since they seem down to earth take me on shore dives and are happy to fill my tanks. The Freindliest and most informative shop in RI for what I've seen. If not for them I would know little of the Jamestown dive sites.

When I lived in Providence/East Providence I would either go to B&M or United Divers (209 Elmwood Avenue Providence, RI 02907; tel: 401 274-4482; www.uniteddivers.com). I think United Divers have more recreational stuff (Oceanic, Scubapro, Aqua Lung/Apeks) - B&M was more geared towards NE wreck/technical stuff (OMS, Dive Rite, Scubapro S-Tek, etc.), although they also carried Aeris...

I generally have had pretty good experience with both places. United Divers I thought was a little too expensive sometimes but they were quite nice to me and once lend gear to me for free (wetsuit that I needed to dive the G.O.T. at New England Aquarium).

anyone have a preferred choice of shop in RI for prices/info/selection?

Wow, what a loaded question.

Even though RI is small, it does matter where you are coming from. I will have to agree with 2th divr that B&M Distributing ,http://www.bmdistributing.net/, has the largest selection and most competetive prices. I believe that he has been in the diving business about the longest in RI. He carried tech gear before anyone else knew what it was. I know, I bought my first reel there in 1989. But, with that said, some may not want to travel to the north end of the state.

So, on the east bay side, in Warren, I would recomend East Bay Dive Center, http://www.eastbaydivecenter.com/. Dave is very knowledgeable and friendly. He has been serving the diving community for decades and has a good selection of high quality equipment to choose from.

In Newport you can check out Newport Diving Center, http://www.newportdivingcenter.com/. I do not personally know the owners but I know others that do and have heard that they are good people. The shop was always well stocked and has great access to nearby shore dives around Newport.

On the west bay side, in Warwick, I would recomend stopping in and seeing Todd over at Epicenter Scuba, http://www.epicenterscuba.com/. That shop was formerly known as Scuba Depot. Since Todd and his wife have taken over they brought in a few new lines and completely re-strocked their store. They are also very friendly as well as knowledgable.

And lastly, from the south end of the state check out Narragansett Pier Dive Shop, http://pierdive.com/. Charlie has also been serving the divers in RI for Decades. It's a small shop, but it is well stocked. They can also point you towards some nice diving around the south shore.

Hope this helps.

When I lived in RI I use to use uniteddivers.com but rumor has it they closed their RI shop and only have their mass shop left.

The other shop I use to use is RI Scuba Depot in Warwick RI near the airport. The owner that was there when I lived in RI was also our instructor his prices are extreemly low compared to some shops even compared to some internet deals. I have not been there in two years so I cant say it is the same. I use to host their site but now they moved it and it is no longer up..

I tried Ocean state scuba a few times but the guy makes his own hours it seems and was not always there when I drove by. Though from the previous posts it seems he is good shop to try.

Other then that you can check kalypso (prob spelt wrong) dive shop in north providence. Decent prices large selection specializes in kayak diving.

I am not sure when you were doing business with them, but that certainly hasn't been the case for the past few years. They are open 7 days a week with very regular hours, and have always been there when the sign said they would in my experience.
