One of the staff pinged me to tell me everyone at Pura Vida is safe. Thankful for that!

Still no details on the shooting.

Another staff member confirmed the shooting was not AT the shop but close by.

A few years ago I was fileting a fish on a trash can in the nearby parking lot on Singer island (not Riviera). Two squads with lights flashing pulled up and ordered me to drop the knife. I yelled back "It's too late the fish is already dead". And that's when I got a written warning for loitering.

Parts of Riviera Bch are alittle tough, but Singer Island with it's expensive homes has a strong police force and you'll get a nice "hello-can I help you" just walking down the street if it doesn't look right to them.

Sound like Longboat Key, me and my bonehead friends in high school had a few run ins with the police that went from "Get off my island scum" to "can you please keep it down," once they saw that I lived there.

Unfortunately it was a fatal shooting. Still no word on motive nor assailant that I can find.

So very sad ... and senseless.
