they are sealed but not the same
MK17 is a balanced diaphragm first stage which is known as a very good -cold water- reg.
Sherwood maximus/blizzard/oasis first stages are sealed(dry; air bleed) balanced piston first stages and you can see them on national geographic while being used (blizzard) in arctic dives
MK17 is usually sold together with G250(adjustable),S555, S600(adjustable555) and X650 all are balanced seconds
Sherwoods are Oasis second(warm water version), Blizzard (cold water) and maximus(adjustable) esp. for wreck dives (by underarm hose) all 3 are unbalanced seconds
I was plannig to buy SP or Sherwood and my choiche was Scubapro but I didn't buy neither of them..
Sherwoods are dependable, durable and easy to service regs
where Scubapros are more complex regs but -what I heard and read about them- Scubapros are better performers..
