Would agree...They even mentioned in SD that they had no idea if it was a garbage barge or what they would find when they got there. I doubt anyone would have kept it quiet. There wouldn't have been a solo diver and someone would have said something...Just doesn't sound logical.

I was surprised about keeping it quiet also.

When I was reading SD, I was surprised that they took other people out to the sub to dive on while they were trying to indentify it. The only reason I could see is that group diving paid the charter bills. Otherwise Chatterton/Kohler would have had more excessive bills for a 'private charter'.

hard to keep quiet though with others. Because they want to go tell people "guess what I just dove on, but don't tell anyone because it's a secret". Yeah right...

It is kind of sad to a degree. Gary Gentile has done fantastic things...things I will never come close to doing. He has done so much research and as a result has given alot. So why can't he stand on his own accomplishments. There are plenty of them. He doesn't need to slam John and Richie for their's. There is plenty to go around. I don't know why he cannot simply give credit where credit is due and feel good about the vast number of things he has done himself...

I agree. As I've said many times before, I love his books, I appreciate what he's done, and I think he has a lot to say that's relevant but this situation puzzles me.

I wonder if Gary Gentile knows his website is infected with viruses?

When I went to the "Shadow Divers Exposed" website this is what I got.


This is the screen shot from my virus scanner from the last time I visted his site (many months ago). Luckily my virus scanner caught it before it ran on my machine.

I post this just as a warning that so that others will make sure there virus detection is up to date before visiting his site. Hopefully he's got this fixed by now as this was several months ago.

Of course to get a good laugh out of each others websites. Deep Sea Detectives website
is now a porn site. They got hit by a domain squatter that is a porn site after
they didn't renew their domain name.

When we found the U-boat it was not just Nagle and myself, it was 10 other divers. We tried to keep things quiet and limited to the original team, who had put their hard earned money down on a risky venture and deserved to reap the rewards. THen again, we also thought we would have the sub ID in a couple of dives?? For obvious reasons, we wanted it to be someone from the Seeker.

Over 6 years things evolved, people came and went, and perspectives changed. Our goal was always to ID the sub, and who on the Seeker did it was much less important. John Yurga, Richie, and I shared all of our research, documentation, deckplans, photos, videos, and accumulated knowledge with everyone on whatever boat we were on. I always viewed it as a collaborative effort.

Along the way, there were a bunch of private charters. Some of the boats that took us out did not even charge fuel, like the Calypso? They were drawn to the adventure and the mystery.

Wrong Calypso???? The "free" Calypso was a 35' Henrique's Maine Coaster in Point Pleasant. No red hats, no speedo, please. No one wants to see a 50 year old guy in a speedo. Sorry, France. Thanks Captain Jimmy.

Relatively few sport fishing boats went fishing on offshore wrecks like the U-boat. It was known to a few guys, but by no means everyone. Bill got the numbers from Skeets, who ran a charter boat down the dock from the Seeker. Several other guys now want to take the "credit" for giving Bill the numbers. Go figure?

Gary's revelation will undoubtedly be.... exactly what you think it is?
