It is not in the dealer agreement. You don't have to be a tech to be a dealer. You are however, supposed to be working for Scubapro dealer or be one yourself to go to tech school. There we are told only use Scubapro parts from them because of certain legal issues. Like it or not that is just how it is.

I dont think it is some evil plan to keep parts out of people's hands. It is a way for scubapro to have a quality control system on thier techs from using incorrect parts.

I have been to multiple equipment manufacturer's tech classes and they all have a very similar stance.

I dont even know why I am having to talk about this stuff. This thread was supposed to be about helping someone get thier reg set serviced. So unless the original poster actually asks me something I am going to stop wasting my time.

Imagine if the auto industry said you had to use their techs and sourced parts.

Because you said,
If you are truly a scubapro tech, then you should know better than to use parts that are not bought through scubapro.
and other's have sought clarification.

Take a starter you bought from autozone to a factory dealer and ask them to put it on see what they say.

Yeah, well, here's the difference. I can walk into any auto dealer and buy parts for my car without being fed a line of "life support" BS, even though cars are arguably more potentially dangerous than scuba regulators, and definitely more difficult to work on.

I can buy ANY part I want for my truck, brake pads and other critical braking system components, steering components, front end parts, air bags, anything. All these things if not installed properly could have deadly results for numerous people not just me. Yet the scuba industry comes up with this horse sh_t about needing to be "authorized" to be able to obtain parts. Well I've bad horrible luck with authorized dealers both repairing my gear and the worst experience I ever bad with a company just happened to be Scubapro and their "authorized" dealer.
I don't even use the scubapro stuff I have anymore that I can't obtain parts for, it just sits on a shelf.
I've switched to other brands that are much more end user friendly.
The problem with the scuba industry is it's too small and therefore no competition and companies like SP and others can be little dictators and get away with it. All it is is a way for shops in bed with SP to be guaranteed steady income through over scheduled services. The "liability" line is just that, a line.
And you know what, you little yes men that want to argue, save it for the know nothings that buy into your crap, I've heard it all.
I've seen more double left handed clutzes in SCUBA gear service departments than any other industry, including all my time in auto body, mechanics, and now marine. If you are a competent tech then sorry I didn't mean you.
Take my gear in to a shop? No thanks!

Come on guys; they are just trying to protect their livelihood. If it were not for the scuba manufactures' and retailers' restrictions on parts sales in the USA (where they can get away with it), many scuba shops would lose a large portion of their service business to less expensive and more competent independent service technicians.

Yeah, that's the ticket. LIVELIHOOD support.
