If you want to avoid Fedex, ask Seaskin to ship via their national post - Parcelforce (Royal Mail group). Will also get suit through your national post (USPS in case of the US).

I asked for different shipping on my last Seaskin - which I received back in January. They would not allow any other option than FedEx (for shipping to the US).

In case anybody else appreciated the shipping updates as much as I did, I ordered my Nova on July 21 and was given an estimated shipping date of October 9. Today (October 5) I got the shipment notification and tracking number. 4 days early is nice but it's nowhere near the 25 days early somebody else reported here earlier (not that I can fault them for only being 4 days early). Seems like their estimates are back to being pretty accurate.

Can anybody speak to how long it took to receive theirs once it shipped? I'm in California and trying to schedule a drysuit class before my instructor's schedule fills up.
Took mine less than 10 days to make the journey from the UK to Santa Barbara.

My Nova is not due to be dispatched for another 6 - 8 weeks, however, some of the posts discussing issues with the import tax have me concerned. The suit will be shipped to the USA via Fedex, so I have the following questions for those taking delivery in the USA:
  1. Did you deal with Fedex or US Customs?
  2. Does Fedex deliver the package if you are in the process of appealing the tax?
  3. What information would I need in order to substantiate an appeal?
I hope it does not become an issue, but knowledge is power. Thanks.

You will receive the suit before the tax bill. Fedex does the broker thing for you to clear customs, this is where they can mess up by using the wrong category, my first one was taxed like it were a wool custom suit like thieves wear on Wall Street and not a rubber bag, after fighting with them and citing the correct tax rate they just gave up. It’s important that the suit be marked as being all man made materials and for water sports, Seaskin may have all of this worked out by now. The post office doesn’t care about collecting tax so it may sit for a few days before clearing, FedEx will clear it right away and get it to you very fast, I have no problem paying a fair tax and if it clears right it won’t be to bad.

My buddy received his a hair over a month ago. To my knowledge he has not had to pay anything. If it would help, I can ask him for sure and report back.

lexvil - thanks for the info.

Dark Wolf - I'd appreciate your making an inquiry with your buddy, and let me know what he has to say. Thanks.

You will deal with FedEx, not CBP. FedEx acts as the customs broker with CBP.

Someone else earlier in the thread reported their duty bill was about $50. That was a year or two ago.

I don’t know if you can appeal. Big importers have issues appealing classifications with CBP. I’m a licensed customs broker.

This is one of the issues you have to deal with when ordering from overseas.

Moral of the story: BUY AMERICAN!!! American manufacturers are suffering and it is only fair that you support your local vendors in the US of A!!

Maybe if Americans didn't charge an arm and a leg for a comparable product... Also, most american companies manufacture their stuff outside of america... To that point, is there an American company that manufactures drysuits in america?
