Plastic zipper. Reading different opinions, there really does not appear to be a consensus though.
TIZip, one of the largest manufacturers of drysuit zippers backs up the plastic closed camp:
  • Make sure to close TIZIP® zippers completely and taking care not to bend it for purposes of storage.
  • The storage in an opened position for long period will cause zipper bending. If this occurs, slight leaks are possible.

I think you're asking two different questions. For "short term" packing and shipping, I'd carefully roll it with the zipper closed trying carefully to avoid any sharp bends in the zipper. I might suggest bringing the feet up to back of the the waist, then another fold at the thighs, wrapping the torso and shoulders around that pack so you're not squishing the zipper into the middle of the pack avoiding any small radius zipper bends.

For "long term" storage, I'd unwrap it and hang it from a wide hanger zipped up in a cool dry place free from any sunlight, hydrocarbons or oxidizers (in the clothes closet, rather than the garage, basement, or storage shed).

All of my dive gear lives in the basement. Of course, long term storage is a couple weeks.

My Argonaut 3.0 has an outter protective zipper with no sealing function. I leave the actual zipper open but the outter one closed. Result should be the same?
It's hanging in the closet on a special suit hanger.

The zipper car forces it open, so perhaps some pressure/compression behind it on the closed portion? Just guessing, but I'd zip the inner just to be safe.

I have a TiZip and they recommend to keep it closed. My preference is rolled to that the zipper is not kinked with arms folded inside and kept in the bag dry and talked.
