Funny that you said 37 feet correction because I was scratching my head thinking wow 57 feet at Lover's one? That would have to be one heck of a surface swim and out to where, the sand channels?

Kristina are you telling fish stories, j/k... Looks like you are having so much fun diving every weekend, I'm happy for you... :)

I am in envy because my drysuit was sent back to DUI for alterations, should be back in the water this weekend, I can't wait....

So how come you ladies didn't dive BW? What detoured you from entering the water?

MG

Thanks Elaine, I knew it was 10 off between depth and time, thanks for the clarification! Would love to try the metridiums again, no more jellies! Someone else is going to have to tell us when they're gone though.

The detour from getting in at Breakwater was seeing the poor girl in the car next to us with chattering teeth and the report that viz was 0-5 feet. Seeing how cold she was made me feel cold, and hearing about the viz when I was there the day before, nah. I'm doing a night dive at BW next Saturday night with the dive club and another two dives next Sunday with Norbert. I'm thinking of taking Norbert to Lover's 1 again, I had such a good time, the features under water were pretty cool, even with the kelp dying there were some great rocks to poke around.
I warned you about the fish stories!

I was out on a boat in Carmel. Not my happiest experience, that's for sure! (Not actually sick, just somewhat uncomfortable -- I decided to skip the second dive on account of cold, some sinus twinges, and the certainty that surfacing after dive #2 was going to be *really* unhappy given the boat's exposed position at that point.)

Just curious, what was the vis like in Carmel

Dunno about his Carmel diving today, but we saw about 40 ft vis at Outer Pinnacles, a little less, maybe 30-40 at Cypress Point. No or very few Nettles, an odd Egg Yolk or two. Water was BLUE, but some particulate matter cut the vis a little.

Surgy and medium swells. Some appeared to be 8-9 footers. Wind wasn't as bad as predicted.

Temp was 52 degrees on first dive, 49 degrees on the second dive.

The first dive was, I think, something called "Pescadaro"? The viz was OK -- i'd have said maybe 30', i don't think any higher than that. less in some spots certainly. It was pretty surgy.

i didn't do the second dive, which was, i think the inner part of "outer pinnacles". (Or maybe it was the outer part of "inner pinnacles") but people liked it.

I don't have much basis for comparison, but the captain (this was on the Sanctuary) said it was definitely pretty "rolly" out there, i guess more than usual.

do drugs really make you shrug that stuff off and not have it bother you? i was using ginger, and i was just really really really glad i'd completely skipped breakfast.

On Saturday I dove Eric's Pinnacle with Tim Nelson after a long slog in the big swell all the way to Carmel and a "tour" cruise around Pt Lobos Reserve. Boy, I can't wait to dive that in my boat.

It was nice to meet Brewski, Mikemill, and thier buddy whom I forgot (terrible with names, and kids were jumping all over the boat). Thanks for coming over to say hi at the Breakwater lot.

Not the greatest diving, as the nettles were pretty thick on the way down and the water was murky, but once at depth, the vis opened up to about 25 or more. My anchor was literally right over the pinnacle which turned out to be pretty cool. I reset the anchor in the sand between the rocks and Tim and I swam around the rocks poked around. I saw some baby diamond turbots or similar looking flatfish, lots of rockfish, and a big school of blues that were hanging at the top of the pinnacle on the way up. Tim got checked by a nettle on the cheek on the safety stop. Murky diving kinda creeps me out, but I'm glad I did it.

Can't wait for the blooms to clear and the winter Monterey conditions.

ok guys. i got 100HP tanks and a scooter., will travel. any idea where i can put it to good use??

Sat. the surge was a bit worse than SUn. maybe just because I was on a bigger boat Sunday?

Flintstones was surgey, with some current. beautiful at depth tho. the vis was about 30 feet. as Dan said some particulate matter in the water, but I was shooting macro so, getting close was the order of the day anyway.
The second dive was Mono Lobo Wall this site was protected by Lobos Rocks from the surge. again 25-30 foot vis.
Our final dive Sat was Aumentos Deep. The water in the bay was definitely greener than Carmel. we needed to get to 60 feet to see 25 foot vis. beautiful site tho, lots of color. Here we found Nettles. Lots of fun watching Chris dodge and weave like Mohamed Ali trying to avoid the buggers!

Sunday on the Cypress Sea, we dove outer pinnacles, less surgey than Sat. felt colder for some reason. Then Phil brought us in to Mono Lobo and finally Fire rock.

Camera's still in the housing, will post pics soon.
