This is just a PSA.

The ScubaPro Universal Tool - a spline tool plus more - is currently available on Amazon. $89.95 and available with Prime shipping.

https://www.amazon.com/ScubaPro-Scubapro-Universal-Tool/dp/B005Z745PY

I mention this because I was searching (threads here on SB) for the best way to get a spline tool. I saw a number of posts saying that you can only get this tool from a ScubaPro dealer. And at least one post suggesting that every now and then one will get listed on eBay.

The Amazon listing says there are 10 left in stock right now. No idea if they will get more, or if this is one of those "once they're gone, they're gone" deals.

You can get just a spline tool for a lot less. But, if you need some of the other tools that are built into this tool, this seems like a good deal. Especially as a convenient way to fit a bunch of useful tools into a travel kit. This will fit in my reg bag that goes on the boat with me. Hopefully, I will never need it (while on a boat).

There is a SP spline tool and much more on the Pandora multi-tool. Scuba Multi Tool (Pandora Lab Tool) | eBay

Yeah, I looked at the one and the brass one for $2 more.

I took 2 days of SP class. I don't think I know enough yet, and I wasn't sure if the official SP tool has any extra functions.

I was also a little put off that the Scuba Tools one has a legend that shows what regs it is for and it doesn't list the Mk 25. I realize that it probably works just fine for the Mk 25, even though it doesn't say it.

In the end, I decided I would be pretty unlikely to ever regret buying the actual SP tool. In the future, I can see myself buying at least one of the ST ones, so that I can keep one in my reg bag and another on my workbench.

So, like I said, it was just a PSA because the prevailing wisdom seemed to be that you cannot get the official SP tool anywhere except by going to a SP dealer. If nobody else actually wants one, no worries! :D

Any idea what A type versus B type means?

I think it's Aluminium vs Titanium

Edit: A has a 17mm wrench. B has a 11/16 (17.5mm) wrench.

I would've bought the Scuba Tools multi-tool. You will be using it long after the plastic of the SP tools version has begun to wear away. And it's less expensive too …

Both are mostly metric, just the one slot on Type B is imperial.

I have the scuba tools multi tool and it's been working great for over a decade. It does look like the scubapro tool has more functions, like a few hex keys, but not an extra $50 worth.
