I am about to get the G250. I was looking at the features and it says it has "Automatic anti-set feature".What is this? Also, what does the "antiengraving system" do? I asked the local shop and they said that the anti-set feature is when you push the purge button in a tad and turn counter clockwise to save the seat. This doesn't sound too automatic and by looking at SP's website it sounds like the antiengraving system. Help.

According to my Scubapro Manual the push and twist thing is the Antiengraving System, and according to the book it's only on the R190 <shrug>

Thats the ony thing I could find in the book, it is for all the regulators, but it doesn't fully list or explain ALL the features of each.

Looks like the G250 does not have that feature while the G250HP does. Local SP dealer also could not explain how it worked. We did confirm that the S600 and S550 did not share a common balance chamber and spring so the difference is more than just the adj knob.

I still believe the feature just minimizes the contact between the orifice and the seat when not under pressure and uses a seat material that is resistant to taking a set. I'll have to pay more attention to what is going on next time I service my G500. BTW, my G500 seat is 4 years old with a fairly distinct set but still working fine.

I am refering to the G250HP by the way. I read the other thread any many before saying that the G250HP and the S600 are exactly the same internally. If this is true, how come the G250hp has the purge valve that you push in and turn and the S600 does not? I still trying to figure out what the differnce is between the "Automatic anti-set feature" and the "antiengraving system" in the G250HP. Those of you that own the G250HP, do you push the purge button and turn it when you store it? I was looking at the S600 and the G250HP in the store and the S600 had the noticable rattle that implied that the seat was not set. I couldn't hear anything from the G250HP, even with the purge pushed and turned.

They are identical on the inside...they just made the purge on the G250HP out of hard plastic, and cut a notch in it to "lock" it down. This is a feature that you do not need. The purge button on the G250HP and the R190 can be depressed and rotated so that it will "lock" down. This simply depresses the air barrel lever, which pulls the spring inward and moves the seat away from the orifice. The seat is not touching the orifice, and will "reduce seat wear". This is not an issue if you service your gear with any regularity. I do not lock the purge button in for storage on my regs.

The rattle you heard was the sound of the lever hitting the inside of the reg housing. When adjusted to a sensitive level, the lever will have some "flap" to it, and will make that noise. I does not necesarrily mean that the seat was not set.

I believe that athe Anti-Set Feature has to do with the floating O-ring mechanism in the air barrel. I can't remember for sure, maybe someone else does.

is it to do with the fact that the G250 is a balanced poppet/barrel type 2nd stage where the IP feeds through a hole in the seat (just like Apeks) and so when you have no air "on" there is only a light spring holding the seat onto the orifice?
