They both have the reputation of being good, solid, basic second stages. I’ve used rental MK2/R190 a few times; they breathed ok and seemed pretty bulletproof. I’ve never used the Calypso.

I have never used a technisub regulator.

I am a very biased SP user though and I do like that SP provides parts and service support for decades.

I have an R-190 as my octo and I've breathed with it many times at deeper than 100 fsw without any problem. Works great. Not familiar with the other reg.

I should add that "better" should also take into account serviceability and availibility of parts wherever you go. Scubapro parts are commonly available even in little dive shops on tiny islands and you can almost always find someone who is familiar with them and can fix them. Again, I don't know anything about the other brand. Two wonderful brands are Apeks and Atomic, but I don't find them as easy to get worked on or to get parts for in all locations as Scubapro, Aqualung, Mares, and some others. But my experience is limited to the U.S. Southeast and the Caribbean.
