The 82x comes with an Ultra, the 28xr with a dual.
Second stages are your preference :-)

FWIW, the Ultra Adj and HR (aka Dual) Adj are the same reg - they literally have the same reg body part # - except for the gimmicky tilting purge button and Twin Power System on the Ultra. The latter slightly moves the orifice to reduce or increase cracking effort. They originally developed it as a marketing response for their otherwise non-adjustable regs, but I don't see any reason for it on an adjustable reg like this and it introduces a flimsy plastic piece into an important part of the mechanism.

I think it's telling that Mares does not include either the tilting purge button or TPS it any of the versions of their second stages that they sell in their XR tech line.

IMO, their current flagship second stage isn't either of these. It's one of the metal bodied adjustable seconds, either the Atlas Adj or Epic Adj. The only difference between these is the Epic has TPS.

Functionaly, perhaps....aesthectically and spiritualy, not a chance.

Agree 100%!!!

Not that the 52X was visually appealing either, but to nix the 22X to offer relatively the same internals with such ugly beasts, only to offer the functionality of a rotating turret in such digusting form is a tradgedy from a company that hails from Italy.

the 28X, if not more attractive, is at least more interesting to look at than the 82x and 62x.

I'm with you on the 22. Great history, great performance and the post-2008 bodies are even reasonably compact, although they aren't as visually appealing as the originals.

Here's my current regset:

As you and I both know, the post-2008 MR22 body was just a rebadged MR32. While it doesn't have the lustrous chrome finish of the original MR22, the MR32/post-2008 MR22 was an evolution of the original MR22 1st stage showing that it was possible to significantly pear it down to its basic functional state. This function over form approach, and minamalist aesthetic is what I find attractive in an otherwise gobledygoop of metal (mostly) and polymer parts.

In general, for me at least, the attraction to the original MR22 is that it strayed away from the typical round/cylindrical body style of many other brands of 1st stage regulators.

I similarly find some of the dacor 1st stages to be visually striking, though their internal complexity to carry out the same basic funtion of other 1st stages with minimal actual improvement was/is a total turnoff.

The 62X is somwhat interesting, but it looks like a block of brass going through an identity crisis...like it doesn't know if it should fall in line with the 82x or morph into the more futuristic appearance of the 28x. The reality is that it brings little to the table beyond that which the 22x did, other than shedding a little over 100grams and the ability to ditch the main diaphragm and convert it to TBP with addtion of the cold water kit....perhaps that is the 62x's saving grace.

You guys are hijacking the thread talking about a PoS regulator brand. I should report you.

Don't be upset just because Mares killed off Dacor and left you as an orphaned fanboy. You should be happy....you found Scubapro.

Don't be a hater.

Agreed then, the Mares flagship is the 82x with an epic adj. 🥳
How much that costs?

$1600 with the epic adj octo.
Daaamn that VAD+ is nice tho 😭
The US prices are crazy.

Still 795€ for that scubagasket is not appealing. The first stage is nice but the second stages is what I really want (for that micro). I wrote them to sell the 2nds seperate. Let's see if they agree.
