I too donate blood regularly. DAN says you're good after 24 hours, but I still try to donate early in the week if I'm diving on the weekend.

I sell my blood plasma (plasmaphoresis) twice a week, and they make everyone wait 48 hours before your next extraction. After the second time, the mandatory waiting period is 7 days. Not sure if that is directly tied to repeat donations and plasma levels, or simply a safety precaution.

At any rate, I don't worry too much about it. I did it right before some of my OW pool certification sessions, but I'd wait the 24 hours before going on a dive with significant amounts of nitrogen change.

Well, I guess you guys are talking about one thing, and I'm skeedaddling down another path. Oops. :)

Whole blood cell donation, such as via the Red Cross, is one type of donation. Almost always given freely.

What I am referring to is plasma donation, where the blood is taken out, the plasma centrifuged from the whole blood cells, the blood cells being mixed with usually a saline-based solution, and returned to your body. The facility I go to, Biomedics, pays me $30 every time, in cash. Not a bad way to build up $ for buying scuba gear.. too bad my wife has the money earmarked for other things! :catfight: :)

ahhhh - you can donate that also here but no money is paid for it

i seemed to be very time consuming so i havent volunteered for that yet
