Thank you very much for this honest answer. I cancel it. Hopefully I can cancel the diving luggage, which was 200 euro.

Is snorkeling ok?
You're most welcome.

Knowing nothing else about you or your history, I would be hesitant to answer the snorkeling question. Apologies.

Best regards,
DDM

Initially sick
November 8th with lung clear according to doctor.
Then lung problems started to develop
Diagnosis November 25th

Start feeling better/improving feeling, which coincides with data like heart rate, temperature, and breathing rate, oxygen saturation and hrv as well as generic calculated score from my Oura smart ring
About december 1st

Did a 4 storey fast walk up which feeled fine
December 4th

Ears started to not clear
About debember 7th

Still occasional mucus, however unclear from nose or lung
Until about end of last week.

I would be in egypt in the afternoon of devember 22nd, so earliest dive would be december 23rd, but no problem to wait 2 more days, or better do not dive at all?
i had a severe pneumonia that begin around november 21 st it lasted 3 weeks. i had pretty much the same problem you have.

If you plan to dive on december 23 rd i will say you gonna be fine if you feel good. I suggest to take it easy until you dive. If you could take a couple of days off from work that be great.

In my case beside the incapacity to breath normally while i was ill the biggest problem was the total lack of energy. For that matter i was home sick and an away from work for a week.

don't try to do exercise to stress your body, just normal walking around the block.

Instead of doing 2-3 dive the first day, just to one dive, if you could do shore dive this will be even better.

Be safe

As noted by DDM, the answer you’re going to get from the majority of medical professionals is that you need an evaluation prior to returning to diving. The evaluation recommended may vary, but often will include some combination of imaging, pulmonary function testing, physical examination, exercise tolerance consideration, and possibly bloodwork.

None of these recommendations are supported by any randomized evidence.

If you wish to be conservative and be evaluated you certainly may do so. This does open up the possibility of unnecessary expenditure of time, money, energy, and resources with no benefit and possible further medicalization due to unanticipated/incidental results.

IMHO If you were healthy enough to dive prior to your pneumonia, and you have fully recovered with no impact on your endurance/staminia and are completely symptom free (no shortness of breath, chest pain, weakness, dizziness, lightheadedness, palpitations, etc) you are likely safe to return to diving.

I have to say that I generically feel fit. As I said I could quickly walk up a four storey house on december 4th without having more breath issues than normally. I do not have cough or other symptoms anymore for almost two weeks. As far as I can say from the perspective of a layman, my heart rate, breath rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, hrv, oxygen saturation and resting heart rate during night and day normalized at the beginning of this month (measured by an Oura ring). But I also had a little mucus left, which I am not sure if its from the lung or because I also developed a little congestion. This is the origin of my question in fact, in combination that this has been (not a really severe) a special infection which affects diving more than others.
When I had this it was like going up one storey and I need to rest for 10 minutes. Of course I could stay at home from work and got my necessary rest. I also returned with a couple of days of reduced hours.

It is true, that I was generically fit to dive before. I get a yearly exam by a trained diving medical (www.gtuem.org). Last examination I passed on April this year. That includes, for this recurring yearly test, a lung function test, blood pressure, quick blood test, stress ECG and some generic look into throat, nose, ear, eyes and general body as well as questions in order to see if special tests are needed. Initially I also got some kind of automatic equalization test of the ears. Of course this does not cover everything, however as its recurring you may find abnormalities.

Well in fact I have now decided against diving there. In general I am more a person of "better safe than sorry", so it was good to be reminded by DDM and others. I should stick to the rule, my own fault that I did not make an appointment in time.
However I will say, that I will try a little easy snorkeling, but not long and no submerge or freediving, despite DDM has reservations against this as well. The hotel does offer a house reef with theoretical shore diving. So I can see a little bit.

As a "benefit" to motivate myself, my plan is to save this money (I could cancel the extra luggage plus diving costs there) and then buy a drysuit in the very near future. Also I want to do some little running in the hotel complex as well, which should be good for my fitness.

Next plan: I have now an appointment with my general doctor in January to verify my healt status. As well did I asked for an appointment next month with my diving doctor, so just making my yearly test a bit earlierer. Of course I mentioned this pneumonia. It was my own fault not to ask for an appointment early on before I felt fully recovered, so this examinations are just not possible in time for the vacation.
I guess it was really my wish to dive, and ask for other opinions. Usually you just go diving after some illness, when you feel fit. However this is special, which I knew because I wanted to do the test. In general I tend to be on the conservative side and so should I be this time.

thanks for all the comments!

Sounds like a plan.
