I have talked to some yak divers on the west coast and they switch out tanks all the time when going to the boneyard. Stick the extra tank in the well. When you switch it out, tie it off, throw it over, remove the used tank, tuck it in the well, retreive the new tank, re rig. Go dive.
At least that is what they say. I am sure there is a bit of finesse to the whole thing. And I am sure that if it's a bit sporty out, it might be a bit 'o work.
