So...from 2.5M cruise ship passengers/year to how many more? Is there a limit?
Has there been an impact analysis on the island in terms of the increased number of visitors? I'm thinking about all the empty plastic bottles of water, all the extra trash in general, the impact on the water/sewer systems, electricity needs, etc. Seems that the/an island may not be able to sustain the increase. Nice that we're all concerned about the loss of Paradise, but there are many other items in play here that could affect the entire reef system.
Yes? Thoughts?

CONAMP will be having a meeting tomorrow afternoon with the dive shops to explain what is going on, and/or if anything can be done.

Imminent danger to the reef Paradise |
COZUMEL, May 28 -. Faced with the imminent arrival of more tourists aboard cruise more in a few months the Marine Park and the area where the reef "Paradise", located near the Puerta Maya pier is located, will be monitored by staff of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp), because most tourists can increase the impact and pressure to the reef. When asked Cristopher Gonzalez Baca, office manager of Conanp about the health of nearby reef at Puerta Maya where today the extension of the wharf is built, he said that "we are aware that they are going to change the conditions in Paradise , then that means we need to start adapting park management and monitoring and surveillance, and very importantly, monitoring of Paradise. It should be monitoring the flow of water, cover the reef, the percentage of algae is important and constructive step in this spring, turbidity and dissolved solids that can be found in the water. " Asked if this could greatly affect the life of the reef, he replied, "if given a change in water quality radical, if solids are dissolved in a large amount, it can affect the life of the reefs." As the work of extending the Puerta Maya pier is completed, should arrive cruise with them more tourists, many of whom will choose and makes a number of cruise trips to visit the reef snorkeling excursions to be Paradise the closest to the city. In this regard, he said, "the number of divers will increase the amount of tourists, for the same number of tourists arriving in the spring, can increase the amount of tourists in the park, so can increase the impacts, can increase pressure reefs, which in turn could mean the reef involvement. So, they are going to "monitor" the damage the work does to the reef? F*ng wonderful !
