I'm sorry to report that Tim Burke, longtime captain of the Great Escape, died suddenly on Friday at 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro while preparing for an upcoming trip. The apparent cause of death was a massive heart attack. CPR was attempted but not successful. No word on services but if/when I get that information, I'll pass it along.

". . .So when you take this sailor, Lord,
forever from the sea;
I'll sail my ship through Heaven's gate,
for a sailor I'll always be. . ."

Sound 8 Bells for Captain Tim on this -the greatest of all journeys . .

Very sad news. Tons of great memories on GE. I was just talking to my newly certified daughter about diving with Tim and his crew when the weather got a bit better....

How sweet can it be? Get off this train and on to the next. That is the way he would have wanted to go, I am happy for him.

Very sad news, this was our very first boat dive after certification. He set a high bar, and I felt so safe in his care...rest in peace
