Hi there, very interesting to learn about this change of itinerary now! We have booked the 28Dec-04Jan BDE trip on the Tillis, and have just received the same email as you, with the itinerary change to North Red Sea. So... how can they already plan the weather in this area in a month?
We really wanted to do the BDE since we've been in the North twice and loved it but don't really want to dive all the wrecks again.
Wish you the best of luck and fun on your trip next week, and looking forward to your report and news!

Hi and welcome to the board! I have a suspicion that weather may not be the defining factor with that dive op at the moment. It is just my suspicion. If you have received exactly the same email, you will notice that there is a request to confirm that you're still interested. in your case, since you've done the North twice already, it may be worth it to rebook with a different dive op.

Wish you the best of luck and fun on your trip next week, and looking forward to your report and news!

Thanks a bunch! Will definitely post a report when this is over.

Nice coverage. I don't travel nearly as much, been on 2 trips (this is the 3d) this year, and that's about the most I do a year. I often by trip insurance, for some reason I didn't this time. Lesson learned.

At one time I flew to Jakarta (Indonesia) with EVA air with 3-hour layover in Taipei. The plane was 2 hour late leaving from Houston. I rushed to through TPE and made it to my next flight, but my luggage didn’t.

My next connecting flight was from Jakarta to Saumlaki (Tanimbar) where the liveaboard started for Forgotten Islands crossing trip to Maumere (Flores). My gut feeling told me that if I continued to fly to Saumlaki, my luggage would be stuck in Jakarta until I was back from Maumere. So, I had to stay in Jakarta for a day to wait for my luggage that would be delivered on the next day. Luckily I had a spare day in Saumlaki, before boarding on the boat. So, I immediately changed the Jakarta-Saumlaki flight to the next day.

I filed a trip delay claim to Allianz, which include:
1. A night stay in Jakarta airport hotel
2. Meal
3. Domestic flight ticket date change fee
4. Loss of deposit for a hotel stay in Saumlaki

Allianz reimbursed me for those costs.

Get it from Allianz. I go to about 8-10 trips / year. So I bought annual trip insurance.

Hummm, doesn't the DAN travel insurance have better coverage?

I don’t think so. What’s your DAN travel insurance premium for the same coverage?

I had both dive accident & travel insurance’s from DAN back in 2020. They did not have Covid-19 rider then. So I dropped the travel insurance part & continued with their dive accident insurance part. I had DAN dive accident insurance for 19 years now.

I don't remember now. I go through DAN Europe not US. I believe that DAN Europe has better insurance overall than DAN US. I need to sort through all of this when I am back at my desk.

From reading this article:

I learn that Dive Pro Liveaboard, would, not only change itinerary, but also change your boat. Michael Miles, Sea Story survivor, booked his trip for Tillis and ended up to be on Sea Story. He’s lucky to be alive & surviving being stuck in his cabin for 36+ hours of capsized boat with 20cm air pocket. He was able to open his cabin porthole to get fresh air without causing the boat to sink further. The boat was remained afloat with opened porthole.

I hope we hear from @Scuba-74 after his trip on the Tillis

I will jump in here as someone who has dived the Red Sea extensively since the early 90's. At this time of year (winter) the Red Sea is really windy, and frankly I wouldn't be doing BDE or anything else down south on a liveaboard - its just too damn rough. Years ago liveaboards only went south in the summer months - for good reason. At this time of year a north trip is far far more sensible.

I got lucky then.
