Thanks to everyone who completed my survey about SPG and transmitter failures. Here are the results:
Number of respondents: 61
Divers who've never used an SPG: 0
Divers who've never used a transmitter: 17
Total number of dives with an SPG: 49,353
Total number of dives with a transmitter: 18,503
Total number of divers experiencing an SPG failure: 24
Total number of SPG failures: 67
SPG failure rate per dive: 0.14%
Percentage of divers who've ever had an SPG fail on a dive: 39.34%
Total number of divers experiencing a transmitter failure: 15
Total number of transmitter failures: 47
Transmitter failure rate per dive: 0.09%
Percentage of divers who've ever had a transmitter fail on a dive: 34.09%
Unfortunately 61 respondents is too small a sample size to make any meaningful conclusions. Since only one person has responded since the end of May, despite me bumping the thread, I decided to publish the results now. I imagine that many people who've not had an SPG or transmitter failure chose not to respond, which would increase the failure rate.
Feel free to interpret the data however you wish.
