I was just wondering, for those of you that are Rescue Diver certified, if it's worth it or not. I was thinking the cash would be better spent on another specialty or towards a drysuit.

It’s my favorite class. It will make you better a better dive buddy for sure. I highly recommend it.

yes it s worth it. You touch self reliant diving and will become more aware of certains situation. Over all you will become a more prepared dive to face certain challenge while diving with other.

If I was certing divers:
Cert: Open Water; Class : Open Water
Cert: Competent Diver; Classes: OW, AOW, Nitrox, Rescue

Helps build in-water confidence knowing how to deal with emergencies.

I never show the card -- on the boat I dive as an AOW diver, not as a rescue diver; I don't want the boat operators or fellow divers to think I'm somehow to be relied on more than their buddy or in-water dive master.

And how are you going abrogate your responsibilities when the operator can judge if you are competent or not

Personally I could not afford any courses where for $5 fills and $5 petrol I wasn't swapping a course for 50 dives
which made me far more competent than any course could

I am always listed as rescue cert and not once have I been expected to be relied on as an instabuddy or guide. In many cases I do dive with places that know me and am often put with people who are intructor certified. With the people I dive with I am often the least certified. But that does not mean the least experienced.
