Hi,

Ther wire in the corregated hose on my bc that allows you to dump air when pulled has snapped.

any ideas where I can get a replacement wire? or do i need a whole new corregated hose and wire?

UK based stockist would be great!

cheers

What brand?

The internal pull-dump wire of my SeaQuest BCD snapped a year ago. SeaQuest sells only the complete corrugated hose assembly. A local dive shop had just the wire that they had pulled out of some rental gear they were throwing away, but it was pretty worn.

In the end, I just used some 2mm cord to replace it. It's worked fine for the last 70 dives or so. I rarely use the pull dump, so its main job is just providing some mechanical backup to the rather stretchy corrugated hose.

BTW, when reattaching the corrugated hose, I used red zip and yellow zip ties. It makes finding my BCD on a crowded boat very easy. :)

go to your local Spearfishing Gear store and get soem Mono Shooting line and Crimps. great replacement and CHEAP. last damn near forever.

had one break that used cord, I just replaced with another strong cord, nothing special.

When I replaced the corrugated hose with a longer than stock one, I just replaced the cable with vinyl coated SS cable and SS crimps, all from my fishing gear, the Vinyl coated SS cable is the one used for fishing leaders.

Small roll of wire $5.00
Crimps $0.10 each

Any fishing and tackle store can get you a 2 ft long piece of wire for less than $1.00.

If you prefer, use some reel line #24 and it would do the same.

If you go the wire route, make sure that you use the Vinyl coated one so it won't saw on the hose when you pull.

Goodluck

Why would you replace it with another pull dump? Why not just an elbow?
I didn't like how flimsy the corrugated hose felt without the pull dump wire, so after a few dives I replaced it with some cord. The cord also works as a strain relief so there is never any significant pulling force on the zip ties that hold the corrugated hose in place on each end.

If I were going to go to the hassle of getting an elbow, I'd probably also get rid of the inflator. Inflators, like pull dumps, are just another failure point that doesn't really have to be there.

I have had many seaquest BC inflator ("dump wires") break from corrosion. They seem to use a very thin, crappy SS steel cable and then jacket it with plastic that is not sealed near the crimps.

You can replace the wire very easily with heavy monofilament and a few crimps from a fishing store for less than a dollar. I have no idea why they continue to use steel which rusts and breaks when they could easily have used heavy monofilament which will never wear out and never break, if crimped properly.

StSomewhere is part of the "internet DIR" crowd. Their position is that pull dumps are not necessary; that a properly trained diver doesn't need one, and therefore they are possible failure point with no benefit.

My post was just a reminder that each person has their own definition of what is unnecessary failure points.

Divers used to use backplates or tank harnesses without any flotation/buoyancy. Then orally inflated horsecollars came along. Eventually we added both power inflation capability and pull dumps. Both power inflation capability and pull dumps are in some ways optional, since you can easily orally inflate a BCD or wing, and you can also easily use the oral inflate tube to release air.

Were I to have to go out and find replacement hardware rather than just put tie a cord into it, I'd replace the pull dump with just an elbow, and have the other end just an oral inflate/deflate (no failure prone inflator).
