I just don't log dives
I picked up a really clean US Divers SEA4 regulator that came with a SEA4 plastic 2nd stage and LPO octo. Both of those 2nds have screw-on box top (purge cover) that are frozen in place, way beyond hand tight. Any tips for getting those unscrewed without damage? I thought a strap wrench might work but the grip surface is only 3mm high and sloping.

Lay them face down in shallow hot water, expansion differential has usually worked for me with other things before.

As RainPilot says, I've always had success soaking in hot water. Using a piece of silicone helps with grip. Good luck.

face spanner might work also
Is that like a pin spanner? I'd need to drill a couple of holes?

By the looks of my plastic box tops, it appears that at least one tech has placed a screwdriver through the vent holes and opened them that way. There is deformation with a radius about the size of a small screwdriver on opposite sides of the face. It seems like others have found more elegant means.

I use a medium size needle nose vice grips on my G500. Just adjust until its the right size. Works perfect. Looks like it might work on that reg.

That's a good idea but this reg has vent slots on only one side, so I may have to insert a large screwdriver blade and lightly tap on blade with a hammer. I have it soaking it warm water now.

Not sure but I saw this on the Vintage Double Hose forum.

Ok answered my own question. (Its an SEA4 2nd stage BTW)
You have to remove the Port plug opposite the hose entry - which releases a plastic ring with a tab on it - that locks the diaphram cover in place. Simple.
Might help someone else.

That may not be any help at all... Can't see that side of the 2nd.
