In Lake George upstate NY (way farther north than TN and spring fed) I layer depending on depth (thermoclines down to upper 40's) and conditions up top. I have 2 Henderson polyoleofin (neutral buoyancy) full suits (2mm insulation), a 3mm vest and a 3mm wetsuit (well fitted). I mix and match as needed and don't get cold. That said - I don't need more than a rash guard on Bonaire (79°F water)

Thank you all for the great replies, you guys are helpful as usual. I will try the warm water in the suit thing since I've read it in different places. The "Chicken Suit" hooded shorty thing I will most definitely do since that way ill have a shorty for tropical dives. As for the layers that is good, but four layers of 14mm of neoprene just seem to much for me but hey I guess I figure it out when I go do my advanced open water cert in September Again, thanks al for the replies, they were really helpful!
