I am looking into a new regulator and wanted to know opinions of current models. I want a good regulator that can be used for air or nitrox, can handle colder temps, has a good reputation for reliability, doesn't cost a lot to fix, and of course, one that eases the work of breathing. Any suggestions?

Howdy!

Welcome to SB!!
:happywave Put us in your computer's favorites and check in often. This is a great place to learn, compare, argue :argue:

Please go to our Regulator forum to seek the answers, as that's a complex question...

don

BTW - it would really help if you'd fill out your Profile - so we can respect your training and experiences, or be courteous if you're a newbie?!

:D

I totally agree with Don. By the way, welcome to the board. :)

Apeks T50
I have used this type of regulator for over 6 years nitrox, deep, very very cold--never a problem--summer, winter, ice, current. I am pleased with the performance, serviceability and fair pricing. Just how good are they, I own 5 or 6 of the damn things as every member of my diving famility owns at least 1 or 2 or more (only 1 famility member has ever purchased 1--everyone else just borrows mine and I buy another one), the same--why, they just work. If you think this is unfair, think again, would you not want to have a family member dive with a great regulator and not have problems, or buy junk and scare the crap out of themselves.

Hi divebuddymd,

In my opinion there is a better regulator than the Apeks T50, the Apeks T100.

I own and use both models and I feel better with the T100.

hi ...

i am also lookinh for a reg, inexpensive and good quality for its price...

besides apeks, any other recommendations? or why some regs dont match up to it? just wanna know more, and see other facets.

The Scubapro Mk 16 is relatively inexpensive, offers good performance and performs very well in cold water. I would pair it with a G250 second stage to gain the benefit of a balanced second stage with a diver adjustable cracking effort, but it would also perform well with the more standard and non adjustable R390 second stage. If you go this route and do not mind a standard sized second stage, save some money and get an R190 second stage with it. Same internal parts and same performance as the R390 but for about $50 less. Another option would be the balanced but non-adjustable S550 second stage, but for another $30 or so you could have a G250.

The Scubapro Mk 2 Plus first stage is also an option that offers excellent cold water perforance, bullet proof reliability and super simple servicing all for minimal money. The downside is that its performance is more limited than a Mk 16 or Mk 25 and I would not plan to take it below 130 ft.

Has anyone an opinion regarding the Genesis Atlas??? We are occasional divers, and want something hardy, reliable and economical. We have also heard about the Delta 3's, but there are several of them!? Which one would provide the best performance for the lowest cost (we won't dive below 120 feet, and pretty much stay in warmer waters).

Thanks so much!!!!!

Thanks!

Look up Sherwood Magnum,Scubapro Mr2P/R390, and Aqualung Titan LX.

Also there's this rebate thing going on w/ the Aqualung Legend LX thing in which you get $100 instant rebate or soemthing like that...

Btw, genesis seemed to have some decent regs, but I never really heard of them or used them before, I know they are owned by the same company as Sherwood, how are they?
