How does the T50 stack up against the atx200? I thinking of getting an Apeks and trying to decide on which one.

Hi DementialFaith,
I have seen some reviews on the Genesis regulators...they are rated quite well. There is one particular one, called the Genesis "Atlas" that Leisure Pro is selling via Amazon for $159 (ScubaToys has it for $219, and everywhere else it is a little more costly). AT $159, it is tempting (very) to consider. Anyone know anything about the Genesis Atlas? Thanks!

The Mares Abyss is a great choice if you're near a Mares retailer (and Scubatoys sells it online -- and I believe in an authorized fashion -- for $290 or so). It works well in cold water, and breathes fantastic. The major complaints: jaw fatigue for some people (which you can easily manage with a Sea Cucumber mouthpiece) and a more messy environmental sealing procedure (a one-time thing that you don't have to do yourself, of course).

But it works great for me, and is a reliable, longstanding product that is going cheap these days (since Mares has fancier products like the Proton Metal available).

Oh, I waited a day too long...Amazon's rate of $159 for the Genesis Atlas is 'sold out' :shakehead ...I guess it wasn't such a bad deal after all!

DA Aquamaster:
The Scubapro Mk 16 is relatively inexpensive, offers good performance and performs very well in cold water. I would pair it with a G250 second stage to gain the benefit of a balanced second stage with a diver adjustable cracking effort, . . . If you go this route and do not mind a standard sized second stage, save some money and get an R190 second stage with it.

This is my reg and I think it is a great example of decent cost vs. high performance. The shop I bought it from 'allows' you to set up any combination of scubapro gear you like. They looked a tad dissapointed when I told them what I wanted, think they were hoping to sell me some higher priced options!

That's actually a nice little reg... we can sell them for $159 - I just can't advertise them at that price since we are an authorized dealer and you get a full manufacturers warranty with us... Just following the rules... The only other thing we ask when price matching - is we get to match their shipping... They upcharge the shipping rates by about $10.00 if you check their chart over UPS chart - but we've still got stock.

Kinda reminds me of the other day when a customer came in to get an atomic regulator, and told me my price was too high because LP had them for $75 less - but didn't have any. I told them our price is $100 less when we don't have any! :crafty:

Hi Larry!

I feel very embarrassed...I certainly was not trying to put ScubaToys down. I feel like hiding in a hole now :sulkoff:

As a novice diver with just under 50 dives, and using a regulator that was given to me that is now 13 years old, I am looking for a replacement that won't set me back too much, but will also be reliable and safe.

How would you say the Genesis Atlas compares to the ScubaPro M16 (or can you even comment)? Is there anything special about the Genesis Atlas that requires special setup? What would be the best choice for the octopus?

:goldfish:Thanks Larry!!!! :fish:

There are several good moderately priced regulators out
there. i was in the position of looking for a reg last
year and I looked at the Atomic Z1, SK16/250, Zeagle envoy,
and Apeks ATX50. I went with the ATX50 and have
no complaints. My suggestion is be sure you can
get one you can get serviced easily (unless you plan to do it)
and if at all....test it out before you buy (either from the LDS
or a dive buddy)....Good luck
