In reply to my own post, I see that the 190 may have the two part poppet. This would tend to rule out the previous theory. I don't envy the tech. trying to sort out this puzzle.

I have a "new to me" set and just had this problem happen with my ScubaPro R190 (I think that's the model). It's gotten me through a dozen dives but as I was getting in the water last time, I took a breath to test the octo and it just locked up...

I've been away but just got back to this thread. After looking at the Frogkick manuals that Dave4868 recommended, I realized that I was mistaken. My model is a G250 and NOT the R190. Sorry for my lack of knowledge on makes & models. Hope my description and fix make more sense now.
