Never dived. I plan to begin w/ snorkling (no giggles please), and gradually advance to scuba. I AM fairly proficient with digital photography (own about 4 cameras). Just got a WP-DC300 to go with an old Canon S45.

Off to Tahiti next week to begin my long path to Scuba acccomplishment.

Thanks all,

BarryT

Best wishes BT.. Enjoy your trip and post some UW shots of your snorkel experience. Everyone starts somewhere..

Welcome. No need to feel uncomfortable. The best way to learn is to make sure you are ready and feel comfortable underwater. Hopefully you will enjoy snorkeling in Tahiti so much that you will want to proceed. Enjoy and stay safe.

Howdy!

Welcome to SB!!
:happywave Put us in your computer's favorites and check in often. This is a great place to learn, compare, argue :argue:

Yep, snorkeling is a good way to get used to breathing thru a tube in your mouth and having a mask on your face. Free diving is good to learn equalizing, over and over, but - get some professional instruction on that one. Shallow water blackout can be a killer.

BTW - it would really help if you'd fill out your Profile - so we can respect your training and experiences, or be courteous if you're a newbie?!

I'm 52 years old. Five years ago I snorkeled for the first time (in the Caribbean).
Four years ago I did a resort scuba course in Cozumel. Three years ago I got OW certified and currently have logged more than 200 dives. . Now I'm rescue with wreck and ice specialties and looking forward to more training. Not trying to toot my horn, but show you where and how fast you can go from your snorkeling love. Go for it. I'll bet you'll get addicted just as I did. Wish I had done it sooner (and younger)
