In Coz/Belize, I pack a 1mm full, and a 3mm shorty. I don't know about most folks, but for me, my temperature feeling can change day-to-day. With this rig, I usually wear the 1mm - I just like it and it's great for the wind on the boat rides. Occasionally I'll go with just the shorty, especially for a short boat ride. If, however, I'm feeling a little peckish, I can also put the shorty over the 1mm and then I'm toasty... Just a thought...

Michael Schlink:
James your "spot on" If you can't keep from "hitting" the reef, then your too close, period. How much of a wetsuit or not should never be determined by protecting yourself from coral scrapes or hydroids. AND I'll say it again- how thick of a wetsuit is a personal preferance/need. I rarely wear 3 mil of suit. I wear a 1mil in Coz or sometimes only a vest, but that's just me.

Unfortunately, sometimes when you exit a swimthrough, it can be difficult to impossible not to brush one of those feathery hydroid colonies.
