Yeah, 20 years ago there was really nothing but that Floormaster store in that area. In 91 we had a Stanley Smith security guard come driving up. We said screw it and did our giant stride, and when we surfaced 60 minutes later APD had joined the party. I don't remember how much the ticket was but I always figured if you tried that now you might end up in federal PMITA prison :)

I saw the report on the news when they were winching out those cars, and wondered if I had been the last person in that white Escort at 30 feet.

I swam out there about 15 yrs ago and the rumor was that you couold stand in the middle on top of the crane that was there when it flooded, but no one seemed to know where it was??? It seemed that the vis was pretty good back then but I guess all the runoff from the construction has taken care of that. Keep us posted or if someone want to take that class let me know.

I'm know this is old, I'm replying to this just to document it so if anybody else is thinking about it, they can see this. My brother and I dove this in probably 2010-ish. We went down there at about 9 pm with plans to hop that gate where the dock is, but it was unlocked so we just walked right on in, put on our gear and hopped in. We were excited to look around the edges of the cliffs and see if we could find any sunglasses or jewelry or anything people might have lost while cliff-jumping, but there was so much deadwood and leaf trash that it was just impossible to find anything, so we just ended up cruising around and eventually headed out to the center. I would def agree with the people who said it was a boring dive. I thought the vis was great though (was easily 15 ft from what I remember), but it was weird, I don't know if it's because of the springs or what, but every now and again it would be as if you were swimming between the salt and fresh layers in a cenote or something...just got blurry in certain spots...weird. As far as vegetation goes, just a bunch of tall grass in the shallower spots, but just bare for most of it. Coolest thing we saw were 100's of these little "freshwater jellyfish" (I didn't think that was a thing at the time) about half-dollar sized. Just unexpected and neat, but not really worth trespassing for. Saw a bunch of small fish in there, but nothing else really neat. As far as cars or leftover quarry equipment goes, we just saw 2 grates closer to the middle that were about 20' x 10' and that was it. We heard that there wasn't anything to see there, but we had to go see for ourselves, so I'm sure you will do the same...maybe hit the south and south-east sides, we didn't make it over there...maybe that's where the gold is! Good luck :)
