Are we talking about specific dangers to divers or just generic islam bashing?

Islam bashing? Seriously? We are talking about tourism in an autonomous region of Indonesia saturated with human rights violations and corruption. That has nothing to with Islam.

hi. just came back after spending a week in pulau weh. frankly did not encounter any issue as a tourist and diver. the island of pulau weh is a beautiful place. the people were simple and welcoming. we faced no issues. we all dressed as we pleased. the diving was quite nice. cant compare to bali/R4?komodo but better than most places in asia. sites like batee tokong and the canyon are world class. tokong is called the moray capital. we saw more than 25 on one dive. the place was definitely affected by tsunami but the colors look to be coming back.
the town of banda aceh the nearest international airport ( pulau weh sabang has an airport for connections within Indonesia) was conservative and we were advised to dress conservatively on our way from airport to ferry but that's the closest we came to sharia.
we had enough sightings of the usual sharks, school of devil rays, turtles. even saw a few mantas while snorkeling on one of the beaches.
in my opinion pulau weh as a diving destination deserves more attention than it gets currently.
