Hey Gang

I have been under a rock for the past 5-6 years (little kids) and found out that PST seems to have gone out of business? My go to tanks were PST 100/119's/130s. I am obviously looking/having to buy them used now does buying them used seem like a bad choice due to the exemption on the tanks did it get renewed whats the general consensus of everyone with PST?

the exemption will continue to get renewed. I still prefer them and dive them regularly. The DoT really won't let the exemption lapse because every individual that owns them can apply for an exemption and they won't want to deal with that paperwork.
PST as a company still very much exists, just doesn't make scuba tanks anymore. The current permit expires at the end of this year, but will be renewed
Worthington is in the same category since they do longer manufacture scuba tanks, but they will continue to get the exemption

I used to love my PST HP120 tanks. However, both of them failed eventually. One due to overexpansion and the other due to rust. I now dive neutral buoyancy Al 80s. Although they are 40+ years old, the shop that VIPs them says they look brand new inside.

PST tanks are great and I love the two sets I have. If you need to get new hydro tests done, just remember to remind the shop of the pretest procedure that needs to be performed before the official tank test. I usually tape a copy to each tank to ensure things get done properly.

the e series tanks are still good and a cheaper way to pick up steel tanks than the faber HDG tanks. the older 7/8 neck tanks can get annoying if you need new valves or want to setup doubles/sidemount.

Tbone, how reliable is your info on the E9791 exemption getting renewed? I have 5 PST E7 80s that i really enjoy. I was just ready to "re purpose" them irrevocably. This gives me a glimmer of hope.

Following this discussion from Canada also, as the dive shops have started warning us about filling Worthington or PST cylinders, they were distributed by xsscuba who posted some info back in 2015: Changes to the hydro retest

I hate dive shops, I really do.... If the thing is in hydro, it's in hydro
